What you should know
How to get there by air
Fly to Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL) in Santiago. From the terminal, you can hire private transfers, shuttle services, or rent a car to reach the ski centers. The airport’s proximity to the capital facilitates quick access to the high mountains in just over an hour of travel time from the airport.
How to get there by land
From Santiago, take Route 60 to reach Portillo in approximately two hours. For Valle Nevado, head east on route G-21 from Las Condes. Both roads require caution due to mountain curves, and carrying chains is mandatory during the winter season to ensure a safe climb to the ski resorts in the high Andes.
Climate and clothing
High mountain climate, cold and dry. Wear thermal layers, waterproof clothing, gloves, and UV sunglasses. Using facial sunscreen is essential due to high snow reflection, even on cloudy days, to protect your skin during all outdoor activities.
