When do ski resorts in Chile open?

Ski resorts usually operate year-round and offer mountain activities from spring to autumn.

The beginning and end of the snow season depend on each ski resort, although it is often from the second and third week of July until mid-September, just before spring. However, it tends to last a little longer at resorts located in the southern regions.

From the central village to the south, you will find many ski resorts to enjoy winter in Chile. We will tell you about six of them here.

1. Portillo ski resort

The oldest ski resort in South America, Portillo is located 146 kilometers from Santiago and has 500 hectares of skiable terrain. With 35 slopes at the foothills of the Andes Mountains, it is a preferred destination for advanced skiers.

2. El Colorado Ski Resort

Just 36 km from Santiago and situated on the hill of the same name, El Colorado is one of the most popular ski resorts in our country. It has more than 15 ski lifts and more than 100 slopes, for advanced skiers as well as for those who are starting out in the sport.

3. Valle Nevado Ski Resort

Continuing towards the Andes Mountains, you will reach Valle Nevado, located at 46 km from Santiago. It has 9,000 hectares of ski terrain and 34 slopes, consolidating its position as one of the largest ski resorts in South America and the most modern in Chile.

4. Nevados de Chillán Ski Resort

We move to the Ñuble Region to reach the Nevados de Chillan, a ski resort that guarantees a great number of experiences such as thermal baths, restaurants, hotels, and spa. It is located 80 kilometers from the city of Chillan.

5. Corralco Ski Resort

Corralco is a remote ski resort that attracts people who seek to get away from the hectic city life. It is located in the Malalcahuello National Reserve, a place of exuberant nature that is part of the heart of the Araucania Region.
