Where do cruises set sail from in Chilean Patagonia?

Puerto Natales and Punta Arenas are two cities where you can start your adventure and travel through dreamlike glaciers, fjords, and lakes. You should consider that the cruise season lasts from October to April, and you can find more accessible prices near the start and end of it.

1. Puerto Natales

Puerto Natales is 2,500 km south of Santiago. Local traditions and European heritage mix in this gorgeous city, located near natural wonders such as Torres del Paine, one of the most beautiful places in the world.

You can follow the Kaweskar Route offered by Skorpios Cruises in this city, which lasts four nights and five days and leads you to the Southern Ice Fields. On this wonderful trip you will catch sight of numerous glaciers, among them the famous Guillard, Amalia, El Brujo, Fiordo Calvo and Bernal.

You can also head on expedition boats to the glaciers and even walk on some of them. Additionally, you will see amazing animals such as elephant seals and tour the famous Mylodon Cave.

Depending on the date, the cost may vary between USD 2,520 and USD 4,080.

Skorpios also offers the Nómades de la Patagonia (Patagonia Nomads) Route, only available twice a year: in October, starting from Puerto Montt, and in April, starting from Puerto Natales. These two cities connect on a lovely trip where you can also access the Quitralco Hot Springs.

Find more information on the Skorpios website.

2. Punta Arenas

Punta Arenas is the capital of the Magallanes Region and the southernmost urban center. This city is located next to the Estrecho de Magallanes (Straits of Magellan), and its trade, architecture, and nature leaves the visitors in awe every year.

You can also follow the Fiordos de Tierra del Fuego (Tierra del Fuego Fjords) Route here, offered by Australis Cruises, a phenomenal trip where you will catch sight of the hidden wonders of the world with your own eyes.

You will go through the Beagle Channel on this route and see the mythical Magellanic penguins. You can also explore places such as Pía Glacier, Glacier Alley, Cabo de Hornos National Park and Wulaia Bay. The Yámana, the most southern people in the world who traveled by canoe, lived there.

Depending on the date, the cost may vary between USD 2,465 and USD 5,155.

Australis also offers the Exploradores de la Patagonia (Patagonia Explorers) Route, the same trip in the other direction, which goes through zones such as the Agostini Fjord, eventually leading you to Punta Arenas. There is also the option to combine both routes into an eight-day adventure, which costs between USD 4,797 and USD 11,079.
