The unknown details: this was the magic trip by the Weasley twins and Neville Longbottom around Chile

By: Hernan Claro - 2 October, 2023

Their visit did not go unnoticed, and after months of expectancy, the siblings James and Oliver Phelps finally showed all the details of their trip to Chile. The actors from “Harry Potter” released the second season of their travel show “Fantastic Friends,” a season that has our country as the protagonist in two of its episodes.

Along with Chile Travel —brand from the National Tourism Service (SERNATUR) for the international audience—, the performers Fred and George Weasley traveled for the first time to our country to discover the Torres del Paine National Park with an awesome guest: Matthew Lewis, an actor who interpreted Neville Longbottom in the movies inspired by J.K. Rowling’s books.

Lamb, mate, and trekking

It all started with a message on social media. At the beginning of February, shortly after having landed in Punta Arenas, Matthew Lewis surprised his Chilean fans by announcing his arrival in Punta Arenas. This event caught the attention of Harry Potter fans, who soon found the Weasley twins also in the city.

The truth is that James and Oliver Phelps chose a special place to end the second season of “Fantastic Friends,” Chilean Patagonia. More specifically, their destination was the Torres del Paine National Park, where they arrived to discover the natural monument and meet with their friend “Neville.” On an itinerary organized by Chile Travel, the actors not only dared to do the difficult trek towards Base Torres but also went deep into the regional culture, sharing mate and lamb with the local people. In this context, they learned about sheep activities in the region, which are important today along with tourism.

Soccer, wine, and the Chilean national dance

After the visit of Matthew Lewis in Patagonia, the siblings James and Oliver Phelps continued their trip to Santiago. There, the “Fantastic Friends” lived an intense week in the central zone, which included rafting in Cajón del Maipo, cooking pastries (empanadas), and seeing the stars in the Foster Observatory at the top of San Cristóbal Hill. But they were not alone, because, during their trip around the central zone, they were together with Génesis Rodríguez, an American actress, José “Puma” Rodríguez’s daughter (a Venezuelan singer), protagonist of several Telemundo productions, including the successful “Doña Bárbara,” and part of the cast of “The Umbrella Academy.”

After their trip around Santiago, the actors went to Valparaíso, where they had to show their physical fitness. First, in a futsal match with youth players from the Wanderers (a Chilean football team), and then learning another type of the national dance in the port. But these were not the only experiences, since they also lived a circus experience, a Chilean tradition that celebrated its National Day on September 2nd.

Chilean wine also had its time in the sun: the Phelps siblings, along with Génesis Rodríguez, went to the Casablanca Valley to discover how our wines are elaborated, and they even dared to create their blend.
