Chilean Patagonia: What to do in the destination of your dreams

By: Hernan Claro - 18 December, 2025

Chilean Patagonia

Chilean Patagonia is a natural paradise that will captivate you from the very first moment of your visit, especially if you partake in any of the three must-do activities we are about to recommend.

Located in southern Chile, Chilean Patagonia is a region that offers contact with the wildest and most majestic nature on the planet. It begins at the Corcovado National Park in the Los Lagos Region and ends in Tierra del Fuego.

You can go trekking in Torres del Paine National Park, famous for its towering granite peaks, known as the eighth wonder of the world. You can also sail through the fjords, hike on the Grey Glacier, or spot wildlife such as pumas, guanacos, and condors. Activities in Patagonia range from walks through ancient forests to boat rides on crystal-clear lakes.

The weather is unpredictable, so it is essential to be well-prepared with appropriate clothing. Don’t forget to bring a camera, as the views are simply spectacular!

1. Torres del Paine, home of the puma

Your journey through Chilean Patagonia will not be complete without visiting the eighth wonder of the world, as Torres del Paine is known. This national park offers great hikes and trails such as the W circuit or the Base Torres trek, where you will see the massive granite massifs, its most globally recognized postcard view.

Along with the beautiful landscapes, Torres del Paine is also home to the puma, a large feline that inhabits the Andes and is protected by the Chilean State.

The ban on hunting, the work of civil society, protection laws, and the support of conservation organizations have made this a safe haven for the puma. Therefore, it is also the best place in the world for puma sightings.

2. Follow the Route of Parks of Patagonia

One of the most incredible activities you can do in Chilean Patagonia is to follow the Route of National Parks.

In total, there are 17 national parks along 2,800 kilometers (approx. 1,740 miles), from Puerto Montt to Cape Horn. With 11.5 million protected hectares, this route offers vast biodiversity, featuring 140 species of birds and 46 species of mammals, making it an ideal destination for ecotourism.

At Cerro Castillo, you will find breathtaking landscapes, forests, and turquoise lakes on a 53 km journey for the bravest hikers. Dientes de Navarino, on the other hand, is known as the southernmost trekking route in the world. Prepare for a 4-to-5-day adventure!

The Cochamó Valley is nicknamed the “Chilean Yosemite.” This destination is ideal for mountaineers and explorers, thanks to its challenging routes, green landscapes, and crystalline lagoons.
