Its waterfront is perfect for an evening stroll with Osorno Volcano on the horizon, and you\u2019ll find a wide range of boutique hotels, caf\u00e9s, and craft breweries. And if you\u2019re up for it, Cerro Philippi<\/strong> offers incredible panoramic views of the area. <\/p>\n\n

Ensenada and Las Cascadas<\/h3>\n\n

About 45 minutes from Puerto Varas is Ensenada<\/strong>, a small village surrounded by native forest and the gateway to Vicente P\u00e9rez Rosales National Park<\/strong><\/a>. From here you can visit the Petrohu\u00e9 Falls<\/strong> and cruise on Todos los Santos Lake<\/strong>, destinations where nature reveals itself in all its splendor. <\/p>\n\n

Let\u2019s continue for about 20 kilometers along the eastern shore of the lake. Continuing the loop around Lake Llanquihue, Frutillar<\/strong> is 24 minutes from Puerto Octay. It\u2019s one of the most famous towns in southern Chile, and its architecture will leave you speechless. <\/p>\n\n

On its waterfront stands the iconic Teatro del Lago<\/strong>, one of South America\u2019s most important cultural centers. Another must-see stop is the German Colonial Museum<\/strong>, which will help you understand the history of this popular destination. <\/p>\n\n

As you near the end of the circuit, you\u2019ll arrive in Llanquihue<\/strong>, a town with privileged views of the Osorno, Calbuco, and Tronador volcanoes. Along the shore you\u2019ll find beaches like Wiehoff and El Cisne, ideal for a break by the water. In addition, the Maull\u00edn River and its wetlands<\/strong> are great for birdwatching. Local traditions include cured meats and the Beer Festival<\/strong>, held every January. <\/p>\n\n

Where to start and how to get to Lake Llanquihue?<\/h2>\n\n

The route we\u2019ve just shared heads east<\/strong>, following a clockwise direction. That said, remember this circuit is completely flexible: if you prefer, you can start your adventure from Puerto Varas heading north to visit Llanquihue and Frutillar.<\/strong> Whatever you choose, the lake will always be your companion along the way. <\/p>\n\n

The fastest way to get there is to fly to El Tepual Airport in Puerto Montt<\/strong>, with daily flights from Santiago (1 hour 45 minutes), and from there travel by bus or private vehicle to Puerto Varas. However, you can also arrive from other cities in Chile, and there are even buses that depart directly from Santiago<\/strong> (about 12 hours). <\/p>\n\n
