{"id":54015,"date":"2024-10-15T16:17:05","date_gmt":"2024-10-15T19:17:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chile.travel\/?p=54015"},"modified":"2025-12-10T15:54:47","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T18:54:47","slug":"huemul-lagoon-trekking-discover-a-hallucinating-landscape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chile.travel\/en\/blog\/huemul-lagoon-trekking-discover-a-hallucinating-landscape\/","title":{"rendered":"Huemul Lagoon Trekking: discover a hallucinating landscape"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Discover the Huemul Lagoon trekking, where you\u2019ll go through hills and native forest until you reach this emerald color lagoon.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Located at the top of <strong>Las Cabras Hill<\/strong>, the Huemul Lagoon is one of the most famous destinations in the <strong>\u00d1uble Region&nbsp;<\/strong>and a must for adventure sports lovers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a 6 to 9 hour walk of <strong>medium difficulty,&nbsp;<\/strong>since it has slopes that will demand physical effort, but the reward is worth it: seeing the lagoon with your own eyes will be a beautiful memory forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep in mind that the best time to do this adventure is between&nbsp;<strong>December and April<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do I get there?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First, arrive in\u00a0<strong>Chill\u00e1n<\/strong>, a city located <strong>4 hours<\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chile.travel\/en\/destinations\/santiago-capital\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Santiago<\/a>\u00a0and which can be reached by train or bus. You can also fly to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chile.travel\/en\/destinations\/concepcion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Concepci\u00f3n<\/a>\u00a0and then travel for\u00a0<strong>1 hour and 20 minutes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From Chill\u00e1n, you\u2019ll have to travel a little more than an hour to get to Las Trancas Valley. There&nbsp;<strong>you\u2019ll have to mandatory register with Carabineros (Chilean Police)<\/strong>&nbsp;to do the Huemul Lagoon trekking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Huemul Lagoon trekking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/bkt-chile-travel\/2024\/10\/46b5e8e3-laguna-huemul-1.jpg\" alt=\"Laguna Huemul 1\" class=\"wp-image-54003\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Photo:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/B_i5qUbgukD\/?igsh=MWM2cmJjZnBrbHQ5bQ%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@pierre.riquelme<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most well-known path to Huemul Lagoon is the one that crosses the<strong>Shangri-la Refuge.\u00a0<\/strong>It\u2019s a beautiful trail that goes through native forest, a sandbank and even a river of lava. You\u2019ll see fascinating birds such as black woodpeckers and eaglets, which is why this is a mandatory visit <a href=\"https:\/\/chile.travel\/en\/blog\/birdwatching-in-chile-discover-some-of-our-chilean-birds-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">for birdwatching lovers.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the<strong> Shangri-la Valley <\/strong>entry, you\u2019ll walk a flat path to the&nbsp;<strong>Ecoparque.&nbsp;<\/strong>From there you\u2019ll walk 3 km to the<strong> Shangri-la Refuge<\/strong>, where the trail is well-limited until reaching the Las Cabras Hill on the right side. There you\u2019ll have to&nbsp;climb for a little more than two hours to the lagoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommend the&nbsp;<strong>Ruta de los Caballos <\/strong>for your way back.<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>It\u2019s a longer but simpler path, which makes it ideal to descent. However, keep in mind that it crosses a river whose flow can only be crossed in summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What do I have to bring?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You must bring basic supplements such as food, water and proper clothing for the weather, as well as a first-aid kit and an extra battery for your phone. For this reason, prefer a company with a <a href=\"https:\/\/serviciosturisticos.sernatur.cl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sernatur licensed guide.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do not litter or start
