Continue reading to find out more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where the sea catches fire<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It seems unbelievable, but it is real. One of the most curious facts about Chile takes place on Mocha Island, located off the coast of Tir\u00faa in the Biob\u00edo Region. Here there is a phenomenon that happens in very few places in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Off the shore of this island there are a number of natural gas deposits that, with the right conditions (such as low tides and little wind), can be set on fire producing flames on the water. Locals call this event &#8220;igniting the sea&#8221;, since you can literally see flames that sprout &#8220;from the bottom of the water&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/bkt-chile-travel\/2022\/05\/be0ac59c-244816145_375732147578975_6485078767680919304_n.jpg\" alt=\"uciano.perez.fuentealba\" class=\"wp-image-32294\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CU21V7fl4Ys\/\">@luciano.perez.fuentealba<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mocha Dick<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Moby Dick is a literary classic that tells the story of a group of sailors who get attacked by a huge white whale. But did you know that this famous novel was born off <strong>the coast of Chile<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It seems unbelievable, but it is real. One of the most curious <strong>facts about Chile<\/strong> takes place on Mocha Island, located off the coast of Tir\u00faa in the Biob\u00edo Region. Here, there&#8217;s a phenomenon that happens in very few places in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But <strong>Mocha Dick<\/strong> also has its own book: the Chilean journalist Francisco Ortega investigated the story of the survivors of the whaler Essex who in 1821 arrived in Valpara\u00edso after confronting the white sperm whale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/bkt-chile-travel\/2022\/05\/bd7a2a0a-b079vtqtyt.01._sclzzzzzzz_sx500_.jpg\" alt=\"mocha dick\" class=\"wp-image-32300\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">@<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/efeortega\/\">efeortega<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Mandalorian\u2019s Inspiration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the next interesting<strong> fact about Chile h<\/strong>as not been 100% confirmed, we couldn&#8217;t fail to mention it. <strong>The Mandalorian<\/strong>, part of the<strong> Star Wars<\/strong> universe, used the Atacama Desert as inspiration for some of its scenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Valley of Death- in San Pedro de Atacama- would have been the place that inspired some of the film&#8217;s landscapes, and there are even those who claim that some scenes were filmed in the Chilean desert due to its spectacular colors and the sensation of being, literally, on another planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps Mandalorian himself could confirm this, as the Chilean actor, <strong>Pedro Pascal,<\/strong> played him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/bkt-chile-travel\/2022\/05\/a7c23eb2-img_4522-1.jpg\" alt=\"valle\" class=\"wp-image-32306\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chile, a country of mummies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you thought that Egypt had the <strong>oldest mummies in the world<\/strong>, you\u2019re wrong. Chile should take this title, as in the north of Chile there are even older mummies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chile&#8217;s Chinchorro mummies date back to <strong>approximately 5050 B.C.<\/strong>, the oldest mummies ever discovered on the planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chinchorro people were a tribe of fishermen who lived some 9,000 years ago on the coast of what is now southern Peru and <strong>northern Chile, as far as Antofagasta.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, some of these mummies are exhibited in the <strong>Tarapac\u00e1 Museum in the Azapa Valley<\/strong>, 8 km (5 miles) from the city of Arica in the extreme north of our country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/bkt-chile-travel\/2022\/05\/f3f85343-5t7a7438-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32312\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Mart\u00edn Berr\u00edos<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>These are just a few of the <strong>interesting facts about Chile<\/strong>.
