Additionally, its lagoons are an excellent place to see flamingos and vicu\u00f1as.  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>How to get there:<\/strong> The Salar de Pedernales is 341 km from Copiap\u00f3, capital of the Atacama Region. The route is via Route C-163. The best option is to visit with a specialized tour.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tips for Visiting Chile&#8217;s Salt Flats<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you plan to explore Chile&#8217;s salt flats, consider these recommendations to enjoy the experience safely:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Acclimatize before ascending to high altitude.<\/strong> Many salt flats are located above 4,000 meters above sea level, so it is advisable to spend at least one or two nights in a nearby town to reduce the chances of suffering from altitude sickness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Stay hydrated and protected from the sun.<\/strong> Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and warm clothing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Respect the flora and fauna.<\/strong> Maintain a safe distance from flamingos, vicu\u00f1as, and other species.
