Experience a unique interaction with nature in Lonquimay and meet the Pehuenche indigenous group in person, a mountain people that is part of the Mapuche culture. Take part in local rituals such as the veranadas, and feel the presence of the breathtaking Llaima and Lonquimay Volcanoes.
Visit the Malalcahuello National Reserve and take a hike on the Piedra Santa path. Marvel at the lenga beech trees, coigües, oak trees, and raulí beech trees, with the Sierra Nevada and volcanoes as the backdrop.
“Veranada” is the time period between January and May when families migrate to the mountains to gather firewood, Araucaria pine nuts (piñones, the seeds from the araucaria trees), and to feed their animals.
