By: Chile Travel | Date: 1 April, 2020 | In: Blog ,

Vitacura, Lo Barnechea, Las Condes, Providencia, Ñuñoa and Santiago are the six districts that will continue with the curfew for seven additional days, and 14 in the island of Rapa Nui. Punta Arenas will begin its curfew this Wednesday, April 1st.

Following a new emergency committee over the Covid-19 situation, the Government of Chile announced that six districts in the Metropolitan Region would prolong their total quarantine for seven more days. Thus, Lo Barnechea, Vitacura, Las Condes, Providencia, Ñuñoa and Santiago are maintaining this measure, while in the district of Independencia it ends on April 2, at 10:00 pm.

The announcement was made by the Undersecretary of Public Health, Paula Daza, who also announced that Rapa Nui will prolong the period of total quarantine for 14 more days as a way of protecting its inhabitants.

As for the city of Punta Arenas, it is to be added to the municipalities with total quarantine, as of April 1 at 10:00 p.m. for a period of seven days, due to the increase in the number of infected people in the area.

The health authority also informed that as of this Wednesday, April 1, sanitary controls will begin at the bus terminals in the Metropolitan Region, a measure that will be implemented progressively in other areas of the country.

According to the report by the Ministry of Health, to date, in Chile there are 2,738 confirmed cases of coronavirus, 289 of which have been confirmed in the last 24 hours. Four people have died since the last report, making it a total of 12 deaths nationwide since the health crisis began.

35,142 tests have been carried out in our country, where 8% have resulted positive for coronavirus. 138 people are in intensive care, 108 of which are using mechanical ventilation and 13 are in critical condition.

Authorization to circulate (vehicles)

Minutes after delivering the country’s latest health report, President Sebastián Piñera announced to the country that he will send a substitute veto to the National Congress to solve the conflict regarding the approval of the legislation that eliminates fines for driving vehicles without a valid authorization to circulate.

“It is very important that the legislative process is always carried out in a rigorous manner,” emphasized the President, assuring that “the Government understands and is fully aware of the problems anguish and difficulties that the coronavirus pandemic is causing in the lives of our people, and we are working tirelessly to mitigate them.”

The initiative, which will be discussed immediately, proposes to solve what the recently approved law did not contemplate and will thus eliminate the payment of interest and readjustments of circulation permits that are paid after March 31 and, furthermore, can be paid in two installments: June 31 and August 31.
