Portillo, A True Chilean Classic

As you approach the Portillo ski resort, you might think it looks like a yellow multi-story boat sailing across the snowy landscape that sits a few kilometers from the Cristo Redentor border pass that links Chile to Mendoza, Argentina.

Located 164 km northeast of Santiago on the banks of Laguna del Inca (Chile's mythic Incan Lagoon), Portillo is the oldest ski resort in South America. Its nearly century-long history includes international ski competitions and visits by the Kennedy clan and Fidel Castro himself. The resort is one of the favorites of prestigious Olympic teams for training purposes.

Portillo is the perfect place for snow lovers. Choose from 19 different pistes, over 65% of which are designed for advanced skiers and professionals. The resort also features a series of off-piste circuits that are perfect for elite skiers and snowboarders. Or use the heliski service and enjoy the wide tracks where professionals have gone as fast as 200 km/h.

In addition to the hotel, there's a pool with mountain views, a Jacuzzi, massages, a movie theater, boutiques and a health clinic. The resort's five eateries range from a gourmet restaurant to an observation point where you can purchase sandwiches and drinks. Portillo is open year-round, with summer bringing mountain excursions.
