Since it was founded in 1901, the municipality of Las Condes has become one the most representative sectors of 21st century Santiago. It is home to diverse neighborhoods that offer everything from fine dining to a business sector to high-end residential areas. It also has an interesting combination of innovative urban architecture, large parks and malls.
In the area around Av. Kennedy, east of Santiago's downtown area and just past the municipality of Providencia, large green areas like the 30-hectare Parque Araucano stand proudly next to blocks with high rise office buildings and one of the capital's most emblematic shopping malls, Parque Arauco, which features a large selection of boutiques and luxury brands. If you continue on Av. Kennedy towards the Andes, you'll come to another of the capital's large shopping malls: Alto Las Condes.
The Pueblito de Los Domínicos handicrafts village stands in stark contrast to the panorama describe above, offering visitors and locals alike the opportunity to experience traditional country life in the Andean foothills.
Las Condes is also home to Santiago's new financial district, including the World Trade Center, which is surrounded by cutting-edge architecture at the intersection of Av. Andrés Bello and Av. Isidora Goyenechea. The Bosque Norte sector and Plaza Perú (Av. Isidora Goyenechea) boast five-star hotels, gourmet restaurants and bars. Chileans have jokingly dubbed this neighborhood "Sanhattan."
The recently inaugurated Las Condes Cultural Center brings a cultural vibe and some of the best infrastructure and services in Santiago to the municipality.
