There are still places in the world where you can enjoy a view that seems to go beyond the horizon in every direction and be utterly at peace and at one with nature. More restless visitors to southern Patagonia can try their hand at trekking, bird watching, kayaking, mountaineering, climbing, ice hiking, cycling, horseback riding and whale watching.
The astonishing light is full of contrasts, colors and textures thanks to the region's latitude. Catch a sunrise or sunset in Torres del Paine National Park, where you'll be able to observe condors, foxes, guanacos (a camelid), ostriches and pumas up close. Its paths are well worth the journey- they are some of the finest in Patagonia- as is the sight of the mountains turning red as the sun goes down. Add to this Dientes de Navarino, the world's southernmost trekking route, which is located at the mythical Tierra del Fuego.
Sail through fjords, canals and the Strait of Magellan while gazing out onto hundreds of glaciers. You'll also be able to observe penguin colonies and sail close to dolphins, orcas and humpback whales. Over one hundred of the latter can be seen in Marino Francisco Coloane Park, the only place in the southern hemisphere where they feed besides Antarctica.
Feeling truly adventurous? Travel to South America's southernmost point, Cape Horn, or continue on to Antarctica, a scientific and ecological treasure.
