Hot Springs, Nature Preserves, Ski Slopes and Fishing Spots
The people of Osorno, who make their living from farming and livestock activities, are warm and welcoming. If their hospitality inspires you to learn about the region's history, visit the Museo Histórico Municipal, an impressive neo-colonial building that houses exhibits on Mapuche culture and the city's Spanish and German communities. The downtown area boasts streets lined with 19th century homes, the Centro de Artesanía de Osorno, an impressive cathedral and the Reina Luisa Fort on the banks of the Rahue River.
Chile's first car museum, the Auto Museum Moncopulli, is just 25 km from Osorno on the road to Argentina. Check out its antique car collection, which includes a 1920 Model-T Ford and a '46 Studebaker.
Another local highlight is
Puyehue National Park and its sophisticated hot springs resort. Explore forests of native Coigüe, Ulmo, Tepa and Mañío trees, watch for members of over one hundred bird species, hike the slopes of the Puyehue and Casablanca Volcanoes and visit spectacular waterfalls and glacier-fed lakes. In the winter, Antillanca is the place to be for ski and snowboard aficionados or anyone looking to enjoy unparalleled snow-capped mountain vistas. If you visit during the summer months, hike the area's stunning trails or try rappelling or sport fishing.
Ranco, Rupanco and Puyehue Lakes are excellent destinations for those looking to enjoy fishing and other water sports.
