On your way to Lake Chungará, be sure to visit Parinacota and the wetlands fed by the Cotacotani Lagoon. You can watch local animals "eating breakfast" in the morning, and if you decide to stay the night, you can camp at one of several designated sites. The Nevados Payachatas, twin snow-capped volcanoes that tower 6,500-meter high (their names are Pomerape and Parinacota), are a preview of the spectacular scenery that awaits you at the lake.
Surrounded by wetlands and soaring peaks like the Payachatas, Sajama and Guallatiri, the lake has a 1 km circular trail with many lookout points so you can take in the impressive scenery and revel in the glory and majesty of Andes Mountains.
