An image search of "Santiago" produces myriad variations on the familiar sight of snow capped Andes overlooking the capital's skyscrapers.

Ever since I first laid eyes on photographs of Chile's stunning Capilla de Mármol, or Marble Chapel, I've been drawn to visit the place for myself.

Foto Ruta is a new concept in city exploration and tourism. Foto Ruta now runs urban exploration tours and experiences in Santiago, and use the medium of photography to help participants get under the skin of the city.

Chile is a land of contrasts, extreme biodiversity and cultural richness.

From now until December 16, Centro Gabriela Mistral (GAM) will showcase the photography of Cristián Ureta in a compilation of photos entitled Volviendo a la tierra,  or Returning to Earth, Visual memory of mining camp Chuquicamata.

A new photographic contest in Chile – "Wiki Loves Monuments" – seeks to highlight Chile's cultural heritage, while collecting thousands of images of national monuments.

This week took place the most important religious holiday in Chile. It was held in the town of La Tirana, near Iquique, in the North of  Chile. And gathered about 250,000 people.
